Snow skiing is a popular recreational activity, competitive sport, and means of transportation that involves gliding over snow-covered surfaces using skis. The term “ski” comes from the Old Norse word “skíð,” meaning “split piece of wood or firewood.” This word has become an international term, illustrating Norway’s significant cultural contribution to the sport.
